The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Our last topic for this year is about the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. It is one of the many books Eric Carle wrote for little kids. It is the story of a very little caterpillar who turned up to be a very beautiful butterfly. We learn about life cycle of the butterfly, and other insects and plants that we can see in the garden.

Here is Eric Carle reading the story

Food and Drink

  • In the first week we are going to talk about our favourite food, what we like to eat and what's good for us.
  • We talk about healthy food and a healthy life style
  • If we want our children to lead a happy healthy life we need to get them moving.
  • Ideally children and young people should at least do an hour of physical activity everyday.

Fruit and Vegetables

  • Fruit and Vegetables are very important for our well being because they are full of vitamins.
  • Eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables everyday is very important for our health.
  • Kids are far more likely to eat fruit and vegetables if they see it as a fun activity, try some of  the following ideas.
  1. Cut fruit into funny shapes with cookies cutters.
  2. Play the rainbow game, how many different coloured fruit can a child eat in a day, write down the score on the fridge.
  3. Dress up sandwiches with faces made up of fruit and vegetables.

Water and Milk

  • Drinking lots of water everyday keeps us healthy, it is very important that we drink lots of water everyday.
  • Water is good for our skin, if we don't drink water, especially in summer we can become dehydrated.
  • We should avoid drinking fizzy drinks and those that have lots of sugar in them.
  • Milk is also important for us, it helps us to grow healthy.
  • Milk is full of calcium, it is good for our bones and our teeth.
